The WANGNINAN group is made up of twenty-four people who belong to the same savings group and live in the same neighborhood. It is the fourth time that this group is requesting financial assistance from ALIDé, in order to raise their level of activity.

Agnès, raising her hand in the photo, is the group's representative. She is 31 years old and married to a fisherman named Siméon. Agnès is the mother of four children, all in school, but three being her dependents. Agnès lives with her husband and takes care of the various household expenses together with her husband. In order to provide for the family, and for the past fifteen years or so, Agnès has been selling fresh fish and, additionally, second-hand clothes at a market in Benin. She buys her supplies in Benin.

Eager to meet her customers' needs, and in order to increase her turnover and income, Agnès is requesting a fourth loan from ALIDé, along with the other members of the WANGNINAN group. Previous loans have been well repaid.

Le groupement WANGNINAN est composé de vingt quatre personnes qui appartiennent à un même groupe de tontine et habitent dans le même quartier. C'est la quatrième fois que ce groupement sollicite l'aide financier de ALIDé, afin d'élever le niveau de leur activité. La représentante de ce groupement, du nom de Agnès est celle qui a la main levée sur la photo. Agnès est âgée de 31 ans et est mariée à un pêcheur du nom de Siméon. Agnès est mère de quatre enfants tous scolarisés, mais trois sont à sa charge. Agnès vit ensemble avec son mari. Les diverses charges de la maison sont assurées par le couple. Pour y parvenir, Agnès mène comme activité, la vente de poissons frais et des friperies de façon secondaire dans un marché du Bénin. Agnès exerce cette activité depuis une quinzaine d’année et s’approvisionne au Bénin. Dans la quête de la satisfaction de sa clientèle et pour accroître son chiffre d’affaire et son revenu, Agnès sollicite ensemble avec les autres membres du groupement WANGNINAN, un quatrième crédit auprès de ALIDé. Les crédits précédents ont été bien remboursés.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
