A loan of $3,000 helped a member to purchase leather.

Unión Progreso 2 Group's story

The Community Association, “Unión y Progreso II” will begin its twenty-second cycle with the Pro Mujer (Pro Woman) program, as a part of the Juan Pablo Center. This group is made up of eleven members and is managed by a board for which Ximena is treasurer. The association members work in various fields, including: leather purse sales, dried fruit sales, making and sewing baby clothing, blanket making, imitation jewelry sales, sweater knitting, etc.

Ximena joined the Pro Mujer association seven years ago when her sister-in-law invited her. Today, she makes a living making leather purses and wallets, a craft she learned from her sister.

Ximena plans to use this particular loan to purchase leather from distributors, which she will make into purses for sale in the fairs and markets near the border. Her business helps her to support her family, as she lives with her two children and her partner’s family. When asked what she enjoys most about Pro Mujer, she replied that she likes the meetings and the way they treat their personnel.
