Surbeh Group's story

Meet the members of the “Surbeh” group from Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 500,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for each. With the help of this loan they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and improve their living conditions.

Fatmata is the leader of this group. The 32-year-old woman is married to a contractor and they have three children attending primary and secondary schools. Fatmata has been a businesswoman for ten years now. She sells babies' wear. With her share of this loan, she will buy baby clothes at wholesale to add to her current stock.
