A loan of $1,400 helped a member to buy wool and repair machinery.

Barcelona Group's story

The communal bank "BARCELONA" will begin its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Collpani Regional Office. It is composed of six members and is directed by a governing board led by Carmen Rosa. There are several businesses that the members of the communal bank are undertaking, including a neighborhood store and the sale of baby hats, food, sweets, and grains.

Carmen Rosa says that it is the first time that she is part of a communal bank with Pro Mujer, becoming a member after being invited by a neighbor. She currently has a machine textile business which she has been working on for years, a trade which she learned from her brother-in-law.

The loan that she is taking out is to increase her capital to purchase wool and repair machinery, which she will buy from the market in La Paz and later sell in her retail space. This business helps her to support her family since she is single and has three children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says that she likes the healthcare aspect.
