Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group consists of six married women and one widow. Their average age is 35. They have an average of 3 children. They all live in traditional extended families in the village of Kakiya, in the prefecture of Baroueli, in the region of Segou. They met through kinship, neighborhood connections, and friends. They are in the business of selling condiments, soap, grains, and various store items. The women of the Benkadi group are on their 14th group loan. Sadio, in the middle of the photo, plans to buy 10 baskets of tomatoes, 50 kg of onions, and 2 boxes of smoked fish for resale from her home and by walking around the village to female and male customers. She expects to earn an average monthly profit of 60,000 FCFA that will be used for the needs of her family. A portion will be reinvested in the condiments business.
