A loan of $500 helped to buy various items.

Asmahou's story

Ms. Asmahou was born around 1985 in Sikasso. She is married and the mother of one child. She lives with her husband in a large traditional extended family in Sikasso (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). After her training in tailoring, Ms. Asmahou was familiarized by her aunt to the business of buying and selling various goods: mayonnaise, candies, cookies, etc. about three years ago. She operates her business at the big market of Sikasso and door to door in the city.

Concerned about further satisfying her burgeoning customer base, she decided to join the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso about a year ago. She is now on her second individual loan. The previous loan was properly repaid.

Ms. Asmahou is requesting this second individual loan with the goal of increasing her working capital in order to buy: 4 boxes of mayonnaise, 5 packets of candies, and 5 boxes of cookies to further satisfy her ever-numerous customers. Accepting cash or credit, she sells retail to a diverse and varied customer base.

With this loan, Ms. Asmahou envisions making a monthly profit of 100,000 francs CFA that will be used to help with family expenses and to pay the interest on the loan. The rest will be invested in her business.
