La Vida Plena (Paute) Group's story

The “La Vida Plena” (The Full Life) communal bank is formed by 8 female and 1 male members who live around Paute Canton located in the northeast sector of Azuay Province. Paute’s population is one of the hardest working and most enterprising in Azuay Province. They’ve known how to face up to challenges, to adapt to changes and to innovate to lead in new lines of production. They have a typical cuisine and flower production makes this canton a virtual garden. The highest quality roses are grown for export as well as a great variety of other flowers. Its people are very warmhearted and still keep the flame of their traditions and the culture of its peoples lit.

One of the members of this group is María Verónica, 20. She’s a single mother of an 11-month old daughter. She does not own a house; she lives with her sister in their grandmother’s house. For the moment, María Verónica is caring for her daughter but since she spends most of her time at home she raises guinea pigs and pigs to sell in her community.

She’s in her second loan with the communal bank and she will use it to buy guinea pigs, pigs and animal feed to continue growing in this business. Her dream is to continue with her university studies and become a great professional.
