A loan of $7,200 helped a member to buy pigs and feed.

Las Rebeldes Group's story

The group "Las Rebeldes" is made up of 12 happy, kind, and hardworking women. Each one of them has a job: Teresa sells snacks, Petra raises pigs, Irene sells shoes, Guadalupe sells snacks, Olivia sells meat, Maria Isabel has a confectionery, Araceli sells fruits and vegetables, Clara Maria has a confectionery, Teresa sells clothing, Filomena sells snacks, Laura sells snacks, and Maria Leonor sells jewelry.

This group is located in a sugar-cane region and the majority of its inhabitants work sowing and cultivating sugar cane.

Petra is 38 years old. She only studied through high school and she is married to a man named Clemente with whom she has two children. She tells us that she has always liked to work since she was very small. Her parents taught her how to work to get ahead. Petra says that she started raising pigs more than 19 years ago in order to later sell them, with the intention of earning a little extra money and helping with household costs.

She buys pigs when they're little and feeds them until they're adults and ready to be sold. Petra really likes her work since she can do it without neglecting her family, and although it's a lot of work the earnings are good.

She will invest this loan in buying more pigs, feed, and vaccines to continue carrying out her work. With this investment, she desires that her business continue making progress because she would like to give her family a better quality of life and invest a little in remodeling her home.

This group is grateful to the foundation for the loan which has been granted.
