A loan of $2,350 helped a member to buy ink, sheets of paper, CDs, USBs and to service the equipment.

Union Pesquera Group's story

The “Unión Pesquera” group is located in a sugarcane producing zone on the shores of a beautiful lagoon that’s the main source of employment for the community since most of the residents fish. This group is composed of five very hardworking, tenacious people each with their own economic activity: Cristobal provides carpentry services, Yuliana and Eusebia sell ‘mojarra’ [type of bream], Lucía has an Internet café and Ines sells chicken.

Lucía, 33, attended high school and is married to Adolfo who works as a farmer; they have two children. Lucía relates that a little over six years ago with help from her husband she opened an Internet café aiming at earning a bit of money to help her husband with daily expenses since every day the economic situation was becoming more difficult. Her business is located next door to her house in a small locale she built. She rents computers and makes copies. In time her business has grown and she started to sell CDs and USB memory sticks to increase her profits. She will use the loan to buy ink, sheets of paper, CDs and USBs and to service the equipment to continue providing Internet access service. She is very happy because she does not have much competition and profits are good. She wants in time to continue expanding the business and purchase more computer systems.

The Unión Pesquera group thanks the Fundación for the trust placed in them by granting this loan.
