He has been in farming for two years in his rural home in Western Kenya. His farm produces vegetables and sugarcane for the local market. He works as a motorcycle driver as well for additional income to that of farming.
Kennedy has requested a loan of 41,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. He says he wants to focus on improving and diversifying his farming business. He is also keen on buying his own motorcycle to ease as well make cheaper the delivery of milk and other farm produce to the market.
He concurs with other farmers in the area that animal diseases and drought are the main challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
