A loan of $675 helped to buy ingredients, juices, sodas, candies, etc.

Lorena Del Rocio's story

The Colon Community Bank meets every 15 days in the parish of Colon in the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabi, known as the Ciudad de Valle (City in the Valley) because it is surrounded by hills. In this area, people are agricultural workers to a great extent.

Here is the home of Lorena, 43 years old, who is the single mother of three children, two of whom are of age and one lovely young woman of 16 years who studies in high school and lives with her.

To move ahead and to give a good education to her children she has had to struggle greatly. She has a telephone booth business and a restaurant in her house, and she works every day as much with the telephone booths as in the restaurant. It's the same on weekends, since it's on those days that more people come to her place. She's been working in the phone booth business for more than 6 years and the restaurant she's had for 11 years. Thanks to her businesses she has been able to give her children a good start in life.

With this loan, she is going to buy ingredients for food preparation, and also the products she sells in the booths, like juices, sodas, sweets, etc. She's been part of the Communal Bank for more than three years and she likes it because of the ease of getting loans.

Her dream is to see her daughter become a professional.
