Katty's story

Katty is a very enthusiastic young woman. She and her husband have three children, ages 12, 6 and 4 months, whom they adore greatly and who are their best reason for moving ahead despite the difficulties they may encounter. They live in the Santiago district of Ica, Peru. The Santiago district is known for its agriculture, especially the cultivation of cotton, corn, and asparagus. Various agricultural export businesses are located in the district, which provide many job opportunities. Like any good Peruvian, Katty enjoys the traditional food of the country. One of her favorite dishes is the delicious “Arroz con pollo con causa rellena.” When she has a little spare time she likes to watch television, especially her telenovelas. She only studied until the fifth grade but would have like to have studied the science of communications.

Through hard work and saving, Katty was able to start her business selling clothing. She works about 3 hours a day and can tend up to 10 clients a day. She also works weekends in children’s entertainment and the rental of projectors. She was inspired to have this business because she needed to earn more income in order to better care for the smallest of her children. She feels her business is going well because she is very well known by her customers and she provides friendly and courteous service.

Katty is very grateful to KIVA lenders since, thanks to their help, she will be able to buy more merchandise for her clothes selling business, especially women’s clothing for Mother’s Day. Thus she will be able to offer a greater variety of products and improve her income. This will enable her to continue fighting, day after day, to make her dream a reality. Her dream is to record a children’s music CD.
