Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $275 helped to improve the infrastructure of her business.

Maria Liliana's story

María is 35 years old. She lives with her partner and is raising three children. She lives in her own home, which is located in the hamlet of Guaraguaos Alto, in the district of Tambogrande. It is in a rural area but it does get electric light service.

María makes a living making and selling chicha de jora (an ancestral drink of the Americas and a national drink of Peru, consisting of fermented corn) and traditional snacks, which can be delivered to homes. She relies on her established clientele for both businesses. Her partner has a stable job at a vineyard in Ica.

The amount of the loan is 700 soles, which they will use to improve the infrastructure of their business, to make it more colorful, and to attract many more customers for the consumption of their products and as a result, to improve their quality of life.
