A loan of $2,975 helped a member to buy house-building materials: bags of cement, iron corrugated zincs, nails, etc., for the construction of a family house.

Ibrahim's Group's story

These are teachers at a secondary school in Kenema. Teachers of this noble institution have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, to seek a loan of 12,800,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for the entire group. With the help of this loan, this group of teachers will be able to improve on their standard of living.

Thirty-nine-year-old Ibrahim is the leader of this group of teachers. Ibrahim was born in Magburka. He is married and has three children who attend primary school. Ibrahim has been a teacher for thirteen years. He has requested this loan to buy house-building materials: bags of cement, iron corrugated zincs, nails, etc., for the construction of a family house.

Staff from this school, like many other schools' staff within SMT’s operational areas, comes to SMT to apply for loans. With the help of these loans, they can accomplish tasks that they would otherwise not be able to on their salaries alone. But with the help of this loan, some can pay school fees for their children; others can use the loan to buy furniture, a plot of land, house-building materials, or invest in a business. At the end of each month, these teachers can repay the loan out of their monthly salaries. The institution’s bursar is directly responsible for deducting the repayment and pays SMT on their behalf.

In this group: Ibrahim , Edword B., Mamud A., Mohamed , Ansumana , Fuad Mohamed, Abdul , John Alhaji
