A loan of $1,650 helped to buy meat, chicken, shrimps etc.

Magdalena María's story

Every 15 days in the seaside resort of San Clemente del Cantón Sucre, the 1st of December Communal Bank meets. This place is known for its beautiful beaches that are much visited by domestic and foreign tourists. It offers a diversity of beautiful locations and a rich variety of typical dishes of the region.
In this place lives Magdalena. She is 64 years old, married and in this relationship has three children who are already grown up, one of whom still lives with her. Her husband is a fisherman.
She is a very hardworking woman that works in the home as well as in her business. From her home she sells meat, chicken, shrimp and other seafood by the pound. She works everyday from 8am to 4pm. She tells us that there are very good periods in which lots of tourists arrive and her sales go up a lot. She always buys the best so that her clients take away a good product, and this guarantees her new sales. She has been in this business for 15 years, and it is going really well.
She will use this loan to buy meat, chicken and shrimp among other things that she sells in her shop. She is a founding member of the communal bank, and she likes it because thanks to the loans, she started her business.
Her goals are to continue getting ahead in her business.
