A loan of $1,450 helped to buy seafood.

Mirna Tatiana's story

The 1 de Diciembre Communal Bank meets every 15 days in the seaside town of San Clemente in the canton of Sucre. This place is known for its beautiful beaches, which are visited by many tourists from other parts of the country and abroad. It offers a diversity of beautiful locations and a rich variety of traditional dishes from the region.

This is where we met Mirna. She is 41 years old, married, and has two children from this marriage who are 23 and 17 years old. The youngest is in high school and both of them live at home. Her husband is a shopkeeper.

In order to make some money on her own and to be able to help with the household expenses, she sells seafood for a living. She sells from her home, where she has a small, but well stocked stand. Her customers find everything at her business, as she offers shrimp, lobster, crab, many kinds of fish, and conch, among other things. Everything is of very good quality because she guarantees it and that's why her customers prefer her. She has had her business for over 20 years and it's going very well for her.

This loan is to buy all kinds of seafood and to offer her customers the best. She has been with her communal bank almost from its inception and she likes it because her fellow members are very close and reliable.

Her dream is to have a huge cold store in downtown Portoviejo.
