A loan of $1,650 helped to purchase fabric, thread, buttons, and other materials for sewing.

Narcisa Del Jesús's story

The Communal Bank "Progreso Del Mar" meets every 15 days in the beautiful seaside resort of San Mateo in the city of Manta, known for its beautiful beaches, which are frequently visited in all seasons of the year by national and foreign tourists. In this place, the majority of the residents work in fishing or other trades related to the sea.

In this location, we become aquainted with Narcissa, who is 49 years old and married. She and her husband have three children, who are now independent adults. Her husband is a fisherman.

Several years ago, Narcissa learned the dressmaking trade in a local academy and now she has a small workshop for sewing in her home, where she works designing all types of clothing, although she recognizes that what she enjoys most is making clothes for women and girls. Currently, she is sewing uniforms for schools and colleges since it is the back to school season and the students need uniforms to attend classes. For this reason, she is very busy; currently, she is working everyday from 6am to midnight, since she has so much to complete and because for Narcissa, her word is sacred since that is the base of her customers' trust in her and the reason they bring her their business. She has worked for more than 10 years in her workshop and she tells us that she hardly ever lacks work.

She will use this new loan to purchase fabric, thread, buttons and other sewing materials. She has been with the community bank since its beginning and she likes everything about it.

Her dream is to have a larger workshop with employees.
