A loan of $1,100 helped to buy natural products.

Rosa Maruja's story

The Progreso del Mar Communal Bank meets every 15 days in beautiful San Mateo beach resort in the city of Manta. Manta is known for its beautiful beaches, visited during all seasons of the year by both national and foreign tourists. Here the majority of the people are engaged in fishing and tasks related to the sea.

Sra. Rosa lives here. She is 62 years old, married and has seven children, six already adults and one 13-year-old. Three still live at home and the youngest child attends school. Her husband is a fisherman.

Rosa is a housewife who, in order to have her own income and help her husband with household expenses, sells natural products. She works two or three hours a day, three days a week. She visits clients who buy from her on credit and collects from them every eight days. Her best selling products are for the liver, vitamins and weight loss. She has had this job for three years and it is going well.

This loan is to buy natural products to sell. She has been a member of the Communal Bank for two years and she enjoys it because the payments are easy to handle.

Her dream is to own a pharmacy.

Sra. Rosa is shown in the photo with her granddaughter.
