A loan of $900 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, etc.

Daisy Francisca's story

The "Virgen Del Mar" communal bank meets every two weeks in the beautiful seaside resort of San Mateo in the city of Manta. It is known for its lovely beaches, which are very popular year-round with tourists from around the country and abroad. Here the majority of the inhabitants fish, and make their living from the sea.

This is where we met Daysi. She is 23, married, and has two children, ages 17 and 5. The youngest goes to a local school. Her husband is a fisherman.

She is a very good housewife, who in order to earn her own income and help her husband with the household expenses, sells Yanbal beauty products such as cosmetics, perfumes, and ladies' accessories. She works three days a week, from two to three hours a day. She sells her products on credit, and collects weekly. She has been doing this work for more than 10 years, so she has a good clientele who always buy from her.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, and other products. She has been part of the communal bank for 12 years, and likes it because the payments are easy to make.

Her dream is to have a new boat so that her husband can do his fishing.
