Danaya Group

The members of the Danaya group are all married women, averaging 35 years of age and four children each. They live in extended traditional families in the town of Fana. They know each other through family, friendship, and neighborhood ties. They sell medications, cosmetic products, juice and charcoal.

After a long break, the women of the Danaya group have requested another loan and are on to their tenth solidarity loan. This new loan will be used to buy pharmaceutical products, groundnuts, cosmetic products, charcoal and juice.

Soumba is the first woman from the left in the sitting row. She is planning to buy four boxes of pharmaceutical products from pharmacies in Bamako. These pharmaceutical products will be used as first-aid supplies in her health center where she attends to her patients.

Soumba is expecting average monthly profits to reach 25,000 CFA francs, which will be used in part to take care of her family's needs, while the rest will be reinvested into purchasing pharmaceutical products.

Les femmes du groupe Danaya, toutes mariées, ont en moyenne 35 ans, 4 enfants et vivent toutes dans des familles traditionnelles élargies dans la ville de Fana.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de parenté, de voisinage et d’amitié. Elles font la vente de médicaments, le commerce de produits cosmétique, de jus et de charbon de bois.
Après une longue trêve, les femmes du groupe Danaya viennent de recommencer avec leur dixième prêt solidaire qui sera utilisé pour acheter des produits pharmaceutiques, de l’arachide, des produits cosmétiques, du charbon et jus.
La cliente SOUMBA, première personne à partir de la gauche dans le rang des assises, compte acheter 4 cartons de produits pharmaceutiques au niveau des pharmacies de Bamako qui servira de premiers soins pour ses patients au niveau de son centre de soins pour les malades.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice moyen mensuel de 25 000FCFA qui sera utilisé pour les besoins de la famille et une partie est réinvestie dans l’activité d’achat de produits pharmaceutique.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
