Inspired by her mother and utilizing her 25 years of experience in the salon industry, Kimberly opened Teinte Hair Salon and Studio in early 2012. Using mainly organic and non-carcinogenic products, Kimberly hopes to create a pleasant and non-intimidating space for her clients to receive quality hair care.
Teinte, the French word for color, is Kimberly's salon specialty. Using and selling organic, non-cancer causing chemicals, she provides her clients with quality and safe products both in the salon and at home. A New Orleans area native, Kimberly is a practitioner of yoga, a triathelete and volunteers with the local chapter of an organization that works with abused and neglected children. Her salon reflects her caring and nurturing nature and provides a peaceful space for her clients. The salon also serves as a studio to display the work of local artists, like her daughter.
After other options to fund her business fell through, Kimberly turned to Kiva to help her business. With her Kiva loan, Kimberly will purchase retail products and cover operating capital.
About ASI Federal Credit Union
ASI Federal Credit Union has been experiencing an increased rate of defaults. This is possibly related to the experimental nature of the loan products the organization provides. In order to serve asset-poor communities in New Orleans -- including many still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and the BP Oil Spill -- ASI offers loan products designed to help people start and grow businesses even if they don't have extensive collateral, credit histories, or business experience. For these reasons, these loans also carry a higher level of risk than typical loans on Kiva.
