A loan of $3,000 helped a member to purchase an over machine and some nice fabric and raw materials.

Hero's Group's story

Hero is a young Iraqi wife. At the age of 28, she is a mother of three children and to contribute to the family's income she has been using her sewing skills for the past 5 years to work on her family's clothing needs and also on custom orders.

From a small corner in her home, she makes dresses and other fabric household items, while also taking care of the children and her household.

Hero took a small loan from Relief International - Microfinance Iraq in order to purchase an over machine (overlock sewing machine) and some nice fabric and raw materials to be able to provide more choices and a better service to her customers.

Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers "Group loans" for clients unable to provide a guarantor - thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of 3 to 5 clients and each client is evaluated on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.

In this group: Hero, Shano, Rebaz
