Srey Oun
Srey Oun is aged 32, married and no children yet. She lives with her husband in a village located in the Kang Meas district of Cambodia. She and her husband earn a living through farming every three months, pig raising for four months at a time, and supplement their income through fishing and supplying music for weddings once a month. They have been in this business for eight years. With the current sources of income, Srey Oun can earn up to US$6 per day but can save only around US$1.50 each day.

This is Srey Oun's second loan with VisionFund, Kiva's field partner. Lacking money for her house renovation, she is requesting a loan of 1,300,000 Khmer riels. She will use the entire loan to buy wooden timbers and zinc for her house renovation. She hopes that this loan will enable her and her family to have a decent, clean house to live in.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
