Helmo Tomas's story

Helmo is 42 years old, but feels like he is 20. He lives with his wife and two children aged 13 and 3 years. He adores them above all else as he sees them as all he needs to succeed and improve for them every day. His house is located in the city of Chincha. The city has the largest Afro-Peruvian population of the country and is home to great glories of Peruvian sport. The residents also have a particular gift of delicious cooking and above all are very charismatic and kind. When Helmo has free time he enjoys reading to distract his mind and also likes to eat one of his favorite dishes which is the delicious “Arroz Chaufa” (fried rice).

With much optimism, Helmo works every day in his business as a moto-taxi driver. He works around 12 hours a day and serves up to 35 clients per day. He believes that his business is doing well because he is nice to his customers and offers good rates for his transportation.

Helmo is very grateful to Kiva lenders, and thanks to the help they have given he is able to carry out general maintenance for his vehicle and paint it, as daily use has worn down the parts. He will be able to improve the comfort and safety for his customers, and improve his income so that he can continue to work every day to achieve his dream: "Making his home with good materials and providing a better quality of life for his family."
