A loan of $625 helped to buy flour, sugar, fats and miscellaneous supplies, paying in cash and in greater volume to get a discount.

Mayerlin's story

Mayerlin is 23 years old. She is the owner of a bakery located in her neighborhood, in the city of Cartagena. She began this business 4 years ago when her family arrived in the city displaced and with little capital. Since she knew this business she decided to undertake it and now it is a big help to the family income upon which they depend. Her goal going forward is to have her own facility to generate better income, but her working capital is insufficient to meet her anticipated growth. Currently she is asking for a Kiva loan, her first financing through the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, with which she will buy flour, sugar, fats and various supplies, paying in cash and in greater volume to get a discount, plus a little bit of money to expand her production and this is how she will use the investment successfully. As well, with the delicious aroma that spreads out during the process, her customers will buy everything she prepares in her bakery and Mayerlin can repeat the popular proverb: “everything is selling like hot cakes,” indicating that things are moving along effectively.
