Alpha S.'s Group's story

Pictured here are primary school teachers from the village of Mabai, in Northern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org to apply for a loan in order to solve their immediate financial challenges. Some will use their share of the loan to buy a piece of land, others to build a family dwelling house, some will invest in a business, pay school fees for their children, etc. And at the end of each month, they will repay the loan using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Alpha is the leader of this group of teachers. The fifty-seven year old is married to a housewife. Alpha has ten children, six of whom are attending primary and secondary schools. Alpha has been a professional teacher for thirty five years now. He has requested this loan in order to buy house building materials like sand, cement, etc. for the construction of a family house.

In this group: Alpha S. , John Mohamed, Edward , Emmanuel S.y.
