Elizabeth's story

Elizabeth is part of the “Unidos Empredemos con Esperanza” (Together We Enterprise with Hope) communal bank belonging to the city of Curicó. She is a stylist so provides beauty services. She comments that she equipped her own beauty salon in her house. She’s been in this line of work for 24 years.

She works Monday through Saturday with a flexible schedule but on days of high demand she works a continuous schedule. She comments that she has quite a few regular customers.

The work tools she needs she buys in the city of Santiago at a supply shop for professionals where prices are more affordable. She will use the loan to buy a hair straightening iron, a hair removal machine, a hair dryer, building materials and supplies to improve the infrastructure of her locale and to pay plumbing costs to service her water heater.

One of her goals is to set up a school for stylists so that students can specialize in various areas; this way she can teach and graduate good professionals.

Elizabeth lives with her three children who are 19, 13 and 10 years old. Her oldest son attends the university studying Civil Industrial Engineering. His dream is to become a professional.

She is very happy and grateful for the opportunity provided by Fondo Esperanza because the loan will allow her to invest in her business.

The training she’s received has taught her to organize her business’ bookkeeping better and she now keeps track of her earnings and expenditures. With respect to the communal bank group she belongs to, it is very responsible and committed so Elizabeth feels very comfortable.

Curicó is located in the Maule Region in the center of the country. Curicó’s climate is Mediterranean and considered one of the country’s most pleasant. It’s also noted for its culture associated with wine making and for the natural beauty of its surroundings. Despite rising employment this zone continues to be, according to the latest census, one of the country’s poorest.
