Mary is 44 years old. She lives in Puerto Colombia with her three children, ages fourteen to twenty-four. For the past three years she has been in business. When she started her business she sold various articles such as perfumes, sheet sets, clothes and shoes to her friends and neighbors. Lately she has started to sell electronic goods for the household. Her business is going well. With discipline she has been able to increase her sales. She has gradually increased her customer base. Maria is a very spiritual woman that expresses her love of God. She attends a Christian church where she derives good customers. She is able to offer them products on credit with adjustable payments, which broadens her customer’s possibilities. Her future goal is to open a storefront where she can show her merchandise. This is how she can offer more goods and have more customers. In this way she will increase her working capital. This is Maria’s first loan with KIVA and her first loan with Mario Santo Domingo Foundation. She will use this loan to buy televisions, fans, bedroom furniture and sound systems in order to meet her customer’s requests. In this way this investment will be a success.
