Oscar's story

Oscar is thirty-three and lives with his family in the community of Santa Teresita in the province of Cartago. The city of Cartago was founded in 1563 by Spanish conquistador Juan Vásquez de Coronado. It acted as the Costa Rican capital until 1823 and was the seat of the first permanent international court in history, the Court of Cartago. Its mountainous relief formed by two ranges, the Central and the Talamanca.

Oscar needs a motorcycle because he's a plumber and needs to transport himself long distances from one place to another, and the bike will make his job easier. Getting this kind of transportation is also important because the neighbors have been very satisfied with his service and demand is becoming stronger and stronger.

At this time Oscar is seeking a loan for 750,000 colones to buy a motorcycle to get to work every day and to give the best support and attention to his job.

Oscar is a member of the El Sauce de Santa Teresita Turrialba Communal Bank, one of EDESA's 150 member organizations in Costa Rica. This will be Oscar's first loan and he says that he hopes to be able to continue growing as a micro entrepreneur and to make the business a success. He also stresses that thanks to these kinds of organizations and their facilitation of credit he is able to dedicate more time to productive activities.
