A loan of $825 helped to increase her charcoal inventory.

Harriet's story

Harriet is 35 years old and lives in the town of Seeta in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has three children, two of whom currently attend school. For the past eight years, Harriet has been working hard to manage her small business, which sells charcoal. To help expand her business, Harriet has requested a loan of 2,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to increase her inventory of charcoal, and will help Harriet to generate greater profits and buy family needs like food. Harriet hopes that in the future she will be able to become a powerful business woman. Harriet is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Harriet who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
