A loan of $4,800 helped a member to renovate and improve her work area.

Amina's Group's story

Amina is a thirty-nine-year old Iraqi woman, a mother of four children. With five years experience in the sewing and tailoring field, Amina has been attracting clients with her high quality work, thereby contributing to the family's income. Working from home, Amina makes sure all that her household obligations are met and also ensures that her customers are satisfied by the work she is producing.

In the past, Amina successfully applied, received and repaid a loan to Relief International - Microfinance Iraq, which she used to buy an air conditioner, heater unit and some small furniture items.

Now Amina wants to borrow a loan to make further improvements to her work area by renovating and renewing the places she uses for the sewing and tailoring work.

Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers "Group loans" for clients unable to provide a guarantor - thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of three to five clients and each client is evaluated on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.
