A loan of $675 helped to buy eggs, plastic bags and buckets.

Celia Silfide's story

In the city of Charapoto, the communal bank "San Esteban" meets every 15 days. This is a place that is known for its traditional culture and also for being just minutes away from two of the best beaches in the province: San Jacinto and San Clemente.

This is where Celia, 53, lives. She is in a common-law marriage from which she has 4 children who are all adults. One of her daughters lives in her house; she is a single mother and lives with her small child. Celia's husband is a field worker.

In order to earn something on her own and thereby help her husband, who earns little working the fields, Celia has a business buying and selling eggs. She has a small store in her house where she makes her sales. She works every day, because her business is in her house and so this doesn't cause her any problems; she can do her household tasks at the same time that she is selling her products. She has been doing this work for 4 years, and she started this business with the first loan that she received from this bank.

She will use this loan to buy eggs, plastic bags and buckets. She has been with her communal bank for 4 years, and she likes it because thanks to the loans, she has been able to earn something on her own.

Her dreams are to have a bigger business and, most of all, to have good health.
