A loan of $3,850 helped a member to buy natural products.

Pod Natura (Cuenca) Group's story

The Pro Natura community bank is made up of four women and three men. They work every day in different business activities and also in one they share in common which is selling natural products. They work in order to contribute financially to their households and provide for their families. The members live in different parts of the city of Cuenca. This city is considered to be the third most important city in the country from an economic point of view. In December 1999 it was named a World Heritage Site. It has a cold climate but its people are kind and friendly. They maintain their culture and traditions.

One of the members of this group is María Eugenia who lives in Misicata sector, in the city of Cuenca. She is 21 years old, married, and doesn't yet have any children. Her husband is a construction worker. They do not own their own home but live in rental accommodation.

María Eugenia studied in a sewing academy for three years and has been working in her profession for one year. She works in a factory that makes jeans, from Monday to Saturday, from 7.00am to 6.00pm. In her free time she sells Teans-brand natural products. She has been in this business for two years.

This is María Eugenia's first loan from her community bank which she was invited to join by her mother-in-law. She will invest her loan in buying natural products so that she can continue working in her business. Her goal is to own her own home.

On this occasion, we are joined in the photo by a young man in a black t-shirt who is the son of one of the members.

In this group: María Esthela, Elvia Marina, María Elvira, María Eugenia, Luis Antonio, Diego Mauricio, Luis Miguel
