Mary's story

Mary, 34, lives in Soledad, 20 minutes from Barranquilla, with her partner and their two children, 5 and 10 years old. Mary generates an income from a business in which she sells assorted merchandise, which she promotes through specialized catalogs and she buys the products with cash and on credit. What she makes on the sales does not allow her to pay with money that she has on hand. This is because she makes the sales to her customers on credit with adjustable terms depending on what they can pay. Her goal is to finish fixing up her house and that is why she works tirelessly in her own business. She also does household chores to help other family members. She started the business to support her household; previously only her partner covered the expenses. Mary is applying to CrediKiva, the first loan that she requests from the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation, and she will use it to buy beauty products, lingerie, perfume, and merchandise on request. Her biggest challenge is to have enough working capital to fill the orders and to be able to buy with cash. Kiva will help her succeed with the investment.
