True Sisters Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “True Sisters” group from Makeni, a city in Northern Sierra Leone. They are petty businesswomen who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, in order to seek a loan of 1,400,000.00 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for each in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profit and consequently improve on their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Maritatu. Mariatu was born in Kambia, a town in Northern Sierra Leone. She is married and has two children. Her husband is a trader and her children are attending primary school. Mariatu sells provisions – milk, sugar, butter, mayonnaise, cheese, etc.. She has been a businesswoman for 17 years now. She is going to use her share of this loan to buy the above-mentioned items in bulk to add to her current stock.
