Ica, Peru / Grocery Store

A loan of $375 helped to buy shelving, display cases and groceries.

Estela's story

Estela, 30, is a young woman who lives in the city of Ica, which is known for its warm climate throughout the year. It is also known for having one of the most attractive tourist spots in the country, the "Laguna de Huacachina", and for being an agricultural city where cotton, grapes and asparagus are grown. In her free time, Estela loves to sing and make her favorite dishes, such as her tasty "Pollo a la Brasa" (roast chicken). She was only able to get a secondary education because of her parents' low income, but she would have liked to study psychology.

Every day Estela works hard in the grocery store she runs out of her house. She spends about 12 hours and attends to up to 40 customers a day. She believes her business does well because she is attentive and offers low prices.

Estela is very grateful to Kiva lenders. Thanks to their support she will be ble to buy shelving, display cases and groceries. This will allow her to display her products better and increase her income so she can continue working daily to meet her greatest goal which is: "To have a minimarket".
