Martha's story

Martha lives in the Coastal town of Malindi, Kenya. She has been operating a grocery stall for eight years. Martha harvested lime and oranges from her business and sold them to the neighboring customers to obtain the capital for the current business. She is a mother of six children.

Martha has been a member of Milango since late last year and is applying for a loan of 40,000 Kenya shillings to purchase carrots, tomatoes and onions. She aspires to continue with the business to be able to provide for her family.

The main challenges in the business are high taxation and seasonal weather, which has affected her farm output, and the high cost of purchased produce, a cost which she often passes onto the clients.
