Eternel Plus Group

Mudilawe joined one of Hope’s groups (a DRCongo Microfinance program) named “Eternel Plus” in 2009. He is the chairman of that group, which consists of nine members. Thanks to Hope’s loans, the group members’ businesses have prospered.

Mudilawe is 42 years old, married, and has five children between the ages of 1 and 15. He has been active in his business since 1990. He sells foam mattresses to the east of Kinshasa. Mudilawe is dedicated to his business, which generates a profit of US $180 per week. His business is the only source of income he has to support his family.

Mudilawe has already received and successfully repaid nine loans. He is planning to use the coming loan to purchase some foam mattresses of good quality that are needed by his clients in order to generate more profit. His dream is to open a foam mattress shop in his environment.

HOPE International has been providing small business loans and savings services to thousands of entrepreneurs in DRC since 2004. HOPE DRC targets small business owners who can use loans to increase their inventories or invest in assets that have the potential to increase their incomes. Funds from Kiva lenders play a major role in expanding access to affordable, flexible capital for micro-entrepreneurs, 80% of whom are women.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
