A loan of $1,725 helped to purchase clothing and shoes.

Margelis Del Carmen's story

Margelis, aged 52, is a woman with two children aged 23 and 25 years. She dreams of seeing them become successful individuals. She has been working in retail since she received help from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, as initially she only had a small amount of working capital with which to make volume purchases, earn discounts and respond to her customers in a timely manner. Helped by this organization, her business has become more profitable bit by bit, because she gradually expanded her purchases to other countries, such as the United States, Norway, and Spain. She has also expanded to other regions of the country from where she brings a variety of merchandise such as clothing, shoes, bags, etc. Her merchandise is exclusive, and is not very cheap. However, she has customers who buy the very best, who pay what the item costs and who aren't themselves direct purchasers. She is currently applying for a Kiva loan, which is her 28th loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With it she will purchase clothing and shoes. It will set her up to make her purchases benefiting from offers, promotions and sales on the merchandise that has good discounts, and this will translate to income. This is precisely the reason that her Kiva loan will be successful.
