Camino Al Exito Group's story

This communal bank is called “Camino al Éxito” [Road to Success]. It is made up of 15 entrepreneur who work in different areas. Among these are making bread, selling groceries, miscellaneous items, making fast food and sewing. All of them belong to the community of Colina, located in the city of Santiago.

Candy is the president of the communal bank. In the photo she is in the second row, leaning forward and a little bent over. Her hair is shoulder length and light brown. She is also wearing a navy blue t-shirt.

She is a merchant, specifically she sells new clothes for adults and children, according to the season. She has been doing this for two years. She sells her products from her house. Her work schedule is afternoons Mondays through Sundays. She buys her merchandise at distributors and stores, where the prices are cheaper. With the loan, she will buy construction materials in a locale in a room in her house. She will also invest in more exclusive clothing.

Candy lives with her husband and two daughters, aged 7 and 3. Her oldest daughter goes to high school and her youngest daughter goes to nursery school. One of her personal dreams is is to buy a pick up truck which will allow her to transport her merchandise. That way she could sell in rural or marginal areas. She is very happy and grateful for the support offered by the Fondo Esperanza, since the loan will allow her to invest in her business.

In regards to the communal bank she belongs to, she says tha the members are very cooperative and dedicated. Colina is a community in the metropolitan area (where Santiago is the capital of Chile), located in the north of town. Right now it is the center of important investment, mainly in the area of agricultural industry, because of large installations and important businesses. These also bring a lot of jobs to the area. There are also a lot of subdivisions in the area, which contributes to the number of residents. It also has areas with a lot of tourism, such as thermal springs and sports in the the Laguna Piedra Roja and mountain climbing.
