The communal bank of female entrepreneurs, La Union, is from Chaco and is currently in its first loan cycle. The members are eager to continue the program. They work together and, in that way, are able to help their families and give them everything that didn’t have.

Blanca is one of the members. She tells us that she works doing laundry service, and she washes many of her neighbors’ clothes outside. Thanks to this work she can give her family what they need. She says that she is very proud of what she does, since it’s dignified work and above all honest.

She is asking for a loan to buy soap, clothing rinse, fabric softeners, and other things that she needs in order to be able to continue working and growing.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
