A loan of $1,500 helped a member to buy sewing machines and fertilizers and pay school fees.

Hawraa Group's story

The three women pictured have formed the Hawraa Group and are applying for a 1,500 USD loan from Kiva partner Al Majmoua. They will split the loan into three portions.

Salwa is a 37-year-old single woman who has worked as a tailor for the past three years. She is a hardworking woman who puts much effort into improving her life both socially and financially. Salwa plans to use her portion to buy special sewing machines necessary to produce quality goods. She would like to open a tailoring factory where she could employ her sister and brother's wife so they could improve their living conditions.

Joumana is a 39-year-old married woman and mother of five children who has worked as a tailor for the past six months. She works hard to help her husband earn a living and add to their income to cover their expenses. She used to farm only, but she decided to work as a tailor to earn more and so improve her family's living conditions. She was an Al Majmoua client for two previous cycles. She used her first loan for her farming and the second to buy her first sewing machine. Now Joumana will use her portion of this loan to pay for her children’s school fees.

Mariam is a hardworking 39-year-old married woman who is the mother of four children. She has farmed for fifteen years. Mariam produces and sells olives, olive oil and tobacco. Most of her clients recommend her products to others because of their good quality. Mariam will use her portion of this loan to buy fertilizers and amendments for her land as well as pay for her children’s school fees.
