A loan of $1,450 helped to buy nets, rope, fishhooks, power snaps, etc.

Rosa Ines's story

The “Cielo Azul” (Blue Sky) communal bank meets every 15 days in Jaramijo Canton. This place is known for the beautiful beaches that bathe this beautiful place. Most residents here are hardworking and dedicated to tasks related to the sea.

Rosa is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because thanks to the loans she started a business that makes it possible for her to earn a living from home. She’s 63 years old, married and has five children who are all adults now but still live with her. She also lives with a 10 year old granddaughter who attends school and is like a daughter to her. Her husband is a fisherman.

To earn a living she sells fishing supplies like nets, fishhooks and rope among many other things needed to carry out good fishing on the high seas. She works three days a week selling her products to fisherman once they return from the high seas. She goes to downtown Manta every fifteen days to buy what she needs so that when her customers arrive she will have everything needed for work at sea. She’s been in business for two years and has done very well.

This loan is to buy nets, rope, fishhook and power snaps, among others. Her dream is to give her granddaughter, who is her treasure, the best.
