Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Ararat's story

Ararat has been a farmer in the village of Tandzaver, Syunik province, for over 16 years. He raises cattle, chickens, and swine, and also grows fruits and vegetables. Ararat has a parcel of land that serves as pasture for the animals. He sells a large part of what he produces, specifically vegetables, fruit, beef, pork, milk, and eggs to regular customers in the city of Kapan and buyers in his town.

Ararat is 45 years old and lives in Tandzaver. He is a housepainter by profession but he currently works nights as a guard at the town school and works on his farm in the daytime. Ararat is married and has a son and daughter. His son is in school and his daughter is in a paid Masters degree program while also teaching Armenian language and literature in a school. His wife is a janitor in the local school.

Ararat needs a loan of 1,000,000 dram to buy three pigs, three bull calves, and animal feed.
