Sia, age 35, earns an income by selling jewelry. She was born in the village of Tumbodu. Sia and her husband have one child. Her husband is a trader and her child is attending primary school. Sia has been engaged in her business for the past 13 years.
She has requested a loan of in the amount of 5,000,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for the first time from SMT and Kiva lenders in order to further expand her business. With this loan, she will buy additional jewelry items to add to her existing stock.

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities. Today, SMT offers group, agricultural, individual and salary loans to micro-entrepreneurs through six branches and one sub-branch in rural, urban, and peri-urban areas.
