Martha's story

Martha is a 52 year old married woman with a 28 year old son. She is a merchant, something she has done since 1997. When she started selling toys, creams, paper products, she was supported by her husband, who bought her a display case. As her clientele grew, she added different types of merchandise and her sales increased. Today her business has a faithful clientele that recognizes her and refers her to new customers. With her profits Martha has also started selling ice cream, pens, and has added shoes and beauty products to her merchandise. She even offers a cell phone and international calling service and has 4 phones to do it with. Right now she is applying for a new Kiva loan, the first loan she has taken out with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With it, she will buy more than the usual amount of shoes, beauty products, paper products and plastic containers. these items have a fast turnover and will make her investment successful, because she will have discounts for paying upfront and in bigger quantities.
