About 7 years ago she took a course to learn how to paint ceramics and since then has been working as an employee doing this type of work. Desde hace aproximadamente 7 años tomó un curso donde aprendió a pintar cerámicas, y desde entonces ha venido trabajando como empleada desempeñando esta actividad. Debido a que siente que su trabajo es muy mal remunerado, Karen ha decidido independizarse de su empleo y comenzar a montar su propio negocio de pintura de cerámica, y poder así generar mayores ingresos con los que pueda aportar económicamente en su hogar, donde convive con su esposo y su hijo de 4 años. Con el ánimo de comprar todos los implementos necesarios para iniciar su negocio, Karen busca que un préstamo le brinde la posibilidad de acceder a la compra de materias primas como pinturas, pinceles, entre otros, la compra de una mesa para trabajar y poder así iniciar su propio negocio de producción y venta de cerámicas.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
