A loan of $1,000 helped to buy sewing equipment.

Yamoussa's story

Yamoussa is around 35 years old, married and father to one child. He is polygamous and lives in a large family with his wives and parents in the town of Koutiala (in the Sikasso region).

Yamoussa went to school but was not able to continue his studies. For this reason he went into the sewing field and learnt his trade with the boss of a workshop when he left school 15 years ago. He has a good repuration as he is in great demand from his customers.

In order to increase his working capital and business volume and to satisfy customer demand, Yamoussa decided to join the microfinance institution, Soro Yiriwaso, to obtain a loan. He is on his first individual loan and is planning to use it to buy equipment: glazer, buttons, thread, needles, sewing paper. He gets his supplies in Burkina Faso and Bamako, and carries out his business in the town of Koutiala for a customer base of women and men, for cash; often he sends his sewn fabrics to his brother in France for sale there. He is expecting to make a monthly profit of 150,000FCFA, which he will use to repay his loans and satisfy his family's needs; the balance will be invested in his business.
