A loan of $1,125 helped to buy bags of pea seeds and bags of organic fertilizer.

Nazario's story

Nazario is 33 years old, and he lives with his mother. He takes care of her with great affection because she is elderly. They live together in their own house in the Villa Visca settlement in the Huasahuasi – Tarma district.

For over 15 years Nazario has been growing potatoes and peas on his own agricultural land. “During the planting seasons I rent land, and that way I am assured of a good harvest,” he says. He likes working in the field because it relaxes him every time he visits his fields.

Working on the land is tiring, and it absorbs all of Nazario’s time. That is why he hires day workers to accelerate the work. When he is done tending to his crops he works as a day worker on different fields. They pay him 25 soles a day, and that is how he earns extra money.

He is now working for a construction company in his district. His salary is fixed so he does not worry about paying his debts. His main worry is the lack of more agricultural land. Renting uses up more money. Therefore, he is saving what he needs in order to be able to buy more land and increase his production.

This will be his 11th loan, thanks to the help from MFP. He pledges to be punctual with his monthly payments. He belongs to the Villa Visca communal bank. He feels good working with supportive and perseverant people. Nazario will be able to buy four bags of pea seeds for an average of 2,400 soles. He will use the rest of the loan to buy organic fertilizers.
