Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $950 helped to buy sewing supplies.

Yackelin's story

Yackelin is a member of the “Las Mensajeras” communal bank located in Juliaca District, San Román Province and Puno Department. She’s 22 years old, single and has no children. She’s currently attending school.

She’s been working with the Manuela Ramos Movement for two years. She tells us that her first loan was for 500 new soles that she used to increase her sportswear selling business’ working capital.

She will now request a new loan in the amount of 2500 new soles to buy supplies like a bolt of denim, reflective strips, clasps, pockets, etc. to make vests and overalls; she works with her parents.

Her dream for the future is to complete her studies and to export the merchandise to other places. What she likes best about her communal bank is the punctuality, the responsibility and the talks.
